Serious question, has anyone else had a nightmare with a legacy CAD file from a 1990s project?
I got a request to update a set of structural drawings from 1996, and the file conversion and layer cleanup took me almost three full days instead of the two hours I quoted. What's your go-to method for dealing with these old, messy archives?

Oh man, three days? That's rough. I still get flashbacks to a 1998 file where every single line was on its own layer. The layer list just went on forever. My only real method now is to block out a huge chunk of time, make a fresh pot of coffee, and just accept the pain. The purge and audit commands are my first stop, but it's always a total mess.

I used to think the purge command was a waste of time, but after a project last year with over 2000 unused blocks, I get it now. @uma_nelson85 is right, you just have to accept the mess and dig in. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but I'll even run audit like three times in a row because it never catches everything the first pass. It's a special kind of pain that only makes sense after you've been through it.
