The way I do layer management in CAD drives my coworkers crazy

Just had a team review where everyone criticized my CAD layer setup. I sort layers by how parts work together, not by the usual categories like electrical or plumbing. For instance, in a recent project, I put all HVAC ducts and supports on one layer because they interact directly. My coworkers say it's a mess, but when I need to tweak a system, I find everything faster. I mean, standard layers are fine, but they don't always fit real-world fixes. Maybe it's just me, but this method has cut my revision time in half. How do you handle layers in complex drawings?

Get why your coworkers are upset, but I see your point too. Your way makes sense if you're the only one working on the drawing. But in a team, everyone needs to find things fast without learning your system. How do you hand off drawings to others without causing confusion? I've seen similar fights in my office over layer names. Do you have a cheat sheet or something to help your team get on board?

I just made a laminated cheat sheet for common layers, taped it to every monitor.

Ever get pushback from coworkers who find it confusing, @derek_murray?
