Changed my tune on using a second pump for the spoils line
Always thought running a second pump just for the spoils was a waste of fuel and a hassle. My boss in Galveston made me try it on a job with really thick silt. We hooked up a spare 6-inch Godwin to just handle the discharge. The main dredge didn't bog down once and we cleared the basin two days faster. Anyone else run a setup like this for heavy material?

Sometimes the boss's annoying ideas actually work out.

Yeah @olivia391, it's weird how that happens. Makes you wonder if they just act annoyed to lower our expectations.

Oh man, that is so true... I had the exact same thing happen to me on a job down in Corpus Christi. We were chewing through this nasty clay mix and the main pump kept surging. My foreman threw on a little 4-inch Gorman-Rupp just for the spoils line and it was like night and day. The whole operation just smoothed right out and we finished way ahead of schedule.
