Old timer in Louisiana showed me a trick with shock cord

Three years ago on a job near Baton Rouge, this guy named Cletus told me to stop fighting with heavy steel cable on my anchor lines. He showed me how to splice in a 12-inch section of shock cord to take the snap. Worked like a charm in the rough stuff. Anyone else use elastic on their rigging?

Nah @anthony883, a GOOD splice won't let that happen. You're overthinking it.

I like the idea of Cletus's trick, but knowing my luck I'd probably splice the shock cord into the wrong end and end up with a bungee anchor that snaps back and hits me in the face.
