Fixing a wobbly kitchen drawer made mudding feel like art to me
I was tightening screws on a loose drawer at home. The smooth, repeated motions felt really calming. It clicked that applying drywall mud has the same gentle flow. Lots of installers groan about taping and finishing work. But I now believe it's the most creative step in our trade.

Calling mudding the most creative step is a stretch. Guess we found the guy who turns every repair into an artistic masterpiece, even if he still hates the job.

That "calm, slow rhythm" you mentioned is exactly it. It's like getting into a flow state where you're just focused on the motion and the surface. I mean, that's where you actually start to see the work turn into something finished and good.
