I'm noticing a move to lightweight drywall that I don't support.
Traditional board holds up better over the years.

Read an article last week that said lightweight drywall can SAG over time if not installed perfectly. They mentioned it's more prone to dings and cracks compared to the traditional stuff. My buddy in construction swears by the older boards for longevity. Honestly, it seems like a cost-cutting move that sacrifices quality.

My kitchen ceiling from 2018 is already showing a dip with the lightweight stuff. The contractor swore by it, but I'm with your buddy, the old heavy boards just hold up.

Believed lightweight drywall was the future for a bit. Then @kim_ellis pointed out the sagging problem, and I started noticing cracks in my own place. Traditional board just lasts longer without those headaches. Saving a few bucks now isn't worth fixing walls later. Quality should come first, not cutting corners.
