My taping knife snapped clean in half yesterday
Was working a job in Oak Ridge. First coat on a living room ceiling. My 12 inch stainless taping knife just broke. Right at the handle. Never seen that before. Had to finish with a 6 inch. Took twice as long. Anyone else had a good brand knife fail on them like that?

anthony883 nailed it with the cheap handles thing - I've seen guys baby their $50 blades only to have the epoxy or glue joint fail where the metal meets the plastic. Temperature swings between the truck and the room mess with the bond, especially on stainless vs composite handles. If you're not warming your handle up on your shirt before flexing it, you're basically asking for that exact snap.

My Level5 did the exact same thing last spring on a bathroom ceiling. Handle just snapped right off after maybe 30 sheets of drywall. People act like paying more means it's indestructible but steel is steel and cheap handles are cheap handles.
