Quick tip: use a roller to backroll your mud on baseboards

Was talking to an old timer at the supply house in Mesa last week, and he mentioned he backrolls his mud before taping baseboard corners. I always just buttered it on with a knife, but he said a cheap 4 inch roller gives you an even coat in half the time. Tried it on a new build that had like 30 baseboard corners and it worked way smoother. No more digging out dried chunks from your knife every 2 minutes. The roller lays down just enough mud to sink the tape without overloading it. Has anyone else tried this method or do you stick with the knife for all your taping?

That "digging out dried chunks from your knife every 2 minutes" part hit me hard. I spent a whole day scraping mud off a hawk last week and swore I'd never use a knife for baseboards again.

Swear to god @the_mia I think I'm still finding dried mud in places I didn't know I had places. My hawk looked like a Jackson Pollock painting by the end of it.
