Shoutout to the guy who taught me about pre-filling gaps

Last week on a job in Portland I had a whole ceiling start sagging on me. Mud was too thick and I didn't let the tape set right. Had to tear down 3 boards and start over. Lost half a day and pissed off the lead. What do you do when your tape job goes sideways? Do you scrape and re-tape or just cut it out fresh?

Pre-filling gaps is the trick nobody talks about enough... I started using a setting-type compound for the first fill and it cuts down on that saggy tape problem big time. If a tape job goes sideways on me I always cut it out fresh - scraping just leaves a mess that never bonds right. A sharp razor knife and a quick patch beats fighting with old mud every time.

Man I've been there with the tape sag and you're absolutely right, cutting it out clean is the only way to go.
