That fiberglass mesh tape I bought in bulk was a total waste
Picked up a case of 500 rolls of fiberglass mesh tape from a liquidation place for $120 thinking I scored. Every roll I opened had the adhesive failing within 10 minutes on the wall, tape just sliding off the mud. Anyone else run into bad batches of the stuff or is paper tape just the only way to go now?

The adhesive on those bulk rolls is junk, I had the same problem and switched to paper tape for corners and just use mesh for flat patches with setting mud. Did you try a different brand of compound or just the same one?

Oh man, I stuck a piece of that stuff to my own finger while trying to peel the backing off and honestly, that was the strongest bond it made all day. I ended up with a crusty little patch of mesh stuck to my thumb for three hours while the actual seam just sat there mocking me. I tried a different compound too, some all-purpose stuff from the hardware store, and nope, same story. It just crumbled off like bad expectations.

I had the exact same thing happen with a generic mesh tape and cheap joint compound, it just peeled right off the drywall.
