That one customer who actually watched me work a ceiling
I was finishing a basement ceiling in a split level home outside Cleveland last week. The homeowner kept coming down to check on things, which usually annoys me, but this older guy just stood there watching for about 10 minutes. He finally said 'you know, I've seen a lot of guys rush through the mud work but you won't find their joints later.' That little comment from a random customer made my whole day. Has anyone else had a moment like that where a regular person actually noticed the little things we do?

You ever had a buddy tell you about something like that? My buddy Mike does drywall on the side. He was doing a small office reno. The owner was this retired contractor. Just stood there drinking coffee watching him tape and mud for like 20 minutes. Mike thought the guy was gonna complain. But then the old man pointed at a corner he did and said "that's a clean inside angle right there." Mike said he felt like he won a trophy. It's different when it comes from someone who actually knows what they're looking at. Those comments stick with you way longer than a paycheck does.
