Three years ago on a remodel in Phoenix, I watched a guy try to hang a 12-foot sheet by himself. It was a disaster.

Saw a video once where a guy tried the same thing with a helper board. He got it up but the whole thing bowed out in the middle like a sail. Just not worth the risk when a second person costs way less than a new sheet.

Watched my buddy snap one trying that solo last summer.

Did your buddy's sheet actually fail in the middle like a clean break, or did it just buckle and delaminate where the screw holes were? I've seen a few of those close up and the damage usually tells you a lot about how the load was distributed (or not distributed, really). The ones that snap clean across are scary because they usually happen fast with zero warning. The buckled ones at least give you a second to react before everything goes sideways. Just wondering if he had any telltale signs beforehand like the board starting to sound different under load.
