Unpopular opinion: Job sites feel colder without the old crew bonds

Remember when you'd show up and the whole team would greet you. We learned from each other over coffee breaks and fixed mistakes together. Now, with schedules so tight, everyone just keeps to themselves. I finished a house last week where we barely spoke while hanging board. It makes the days drag and the work less satisfying. We get the walls up faster, but the friendship is gone. Is rushing really worth losing that sense of team?

It's the same everywhere, not just job sites. Go to the grocery store and it's all self-checkout, no chatting with the cashier. In my old neighborhood, people used to sit on porches and talk, now everyone just drives into their garage and closes the door. We get things done faster but lose all the small talk that makes a place feel like a community. The world feels like it's all business now, no room for just being around people.

Some parks and cafes still have that vibe though.
