Warning: My uncle told me to never pre-fill screw holes on ceilings

He said the mud would just fall out, but on a job in Tempe last month, I tried it and got way less sag. The key was using a super thick mix. Anyone else pre-fill overhead seams before taping?

Totally agree about the thick mix. I tried the same thing on a kitchen ceiling last year after my boss swore it was a waste of time. Used mud so stiff it was a pain to mix, but that stuff stayed put. Let it set up good before I went back to tape and it made the whole job way smoother, no sag at all. I think a lot of the old school guys just never got the mix right.

Ever wonder if @tarak17's boss just hated cleaning the mixer after thick mud? That stuff is like concrete in the bucket.
