Watching a crew in Phoenix skip the second coat of mud on inside corners...

I was helping a friend finish his basement last month and saw the crew he hired only put one coat of joint compound on all the inside corners before sanding. They said it saved a day, but when we painted, every single corner showed a faint shadow line under the lights. It's because that first coat shrinks as it dries, leaving a tiny dip. Now I always do two thin coats on corners, letting the first dry fully overnight. The second coat fills that shrink gap and feathers out way smoother. It adds maybe half a day to the job, but you never get a call back. Has anyone else fixed this after a paint job went wrong?

Ever try to fix that by just slapping more paint on the corner?

My buddy tried that and it just made a shiny stripe down the wall, lol. He ended up having to re-mud the whole corner anyway.
