Found out the hard way that my crew "finished" a whole kitchen backsplash with the wrong grout

Was at a job site in Oak Park Tuesday checking on a kitchen reno and noticed the grout color looked way off from what the client picked out. Has anyone else had a crew just grab whatever was closest on the shelf and roll with it without checking first?

Honestly, didn't they check the grout color against the client's sample first?

3M makes a color chart that looks different wet versus dry, so I used to think crews were just being lazy. But after watching my own guys pull from a box labeled "warm gray" that actually dried to a blue-gray, I get how it happens now. The lighting in the shop versus the kitchen can completely change the look too. So yeah, I used to blame the workers, but now I double-check every batch against the actual tile before they start.
