Spent $180 on a "smart" thermostat and now I'm back to flipping the wall switch like a caveman

Picked up one of those wifi thermostats for the shop last spring. Figured I could adjust the temp from my phone when I'm on a job site. Three months in the app stopped connecting, customer service was a joke, and the thing kept kicking the heat on at 2 AM. Took it off the wall yesterday and put my old mercury one back. Anyone else ditch the fancy gadgets for stuff that just works?

My old mercury one never ghosted me at 3am either.

Man I feel this so hard. I bought a "smart" thermostat for my house last year and it was the same deal. App would crash every time I tried to change the schedule, and the thing would just randomly decide to heat the place up in the middle of the night like it had a mind of its own. @nora_wells58 is right about the old mercury ones - they just sit there and do their job without all this nonsense. I finally ripped mine out after waking up sweating at 3am for the third time that week. Went right back to a basic mechanical one from the hardware store and haven't had a single problem since. These companies add all this extra junk nobody asked for and forget to make the actual thermostat part work right.
