Just hit a $12,000 quote for a new sewer line in Bonnie Doon

I was getting a few estimates for a basement reno and the sewer scope showed a full collapse. The first contractor came back with a number that made my heart stop. It's a huge chunk of change I didn't plan for, and it has to be fixed before any other work can start. Has anyone else had to deal with a surprise sewer replacement in an older neighborhood here?

Seriously, twenty grand? I thought my five thousand hurt. Did you at least get a cool rocket ship sticker for your trouble, or just the usual "thanks for your contribution" form letter?

...and here I am thinking I got off lucky with a $7,500 line last year. @calebm75, I can promise you there's no rocket ship sticker in the box, just a bill that makes you question every life choice leading up to homeownership. I swear the guy who wrote the estimate was reading straight off a menu of expensive words like "excavation" and "permit fees" just to watch my face fall. At least yours comes with a fancy new pipe that probably outlasts the rest of the house.
