My neighbor said I should use a certain kind of insulation for our old house in Strathcona

He told me to get spray foam for the attic in my 1920s bungalow, said it would fix all my draft problems. I spent over $3,000 on it last fall, but my heating bill this winter was still crazy high. Turns out the real issue was the old windows, not the attic. Anyone else in an older Edmonton home figure out a cheaper fix for drafts?

Ugh, that's the worst! I mean, old windows will just suck the heat right out, maybe try that plastic film you shrink with a hair dryer first.

That plastic film never really worked for me, nora767.

Funny enough I went through almost the exact same thing last year. Bought all that fancy spray foam for the attic and my house still felt like a wind tunnel in January. Turns out I was basically heating the whole alley outside through my windows while the attic stayed toasty warm. Now I just stuff old towels in the window cracks during winter and call it "vintage insulation." Works about as well as you'd expect but at least it's free.
