Ripped out my basement ceiling last week - drywall vs drop ceiling for resale?

My wife says drywall looks way better but costs twice as much to install after some quotes came in at $3,200. Our realtor friend swears buyers prefer drop ceiling for easy access to plumbing - what did you guys do in your Edmonton reno?

Heard a real estate agent on a podcast say drop ceilings are actually a selling point in basements with overhead plumbing because buyers hate the idea of cutting into drywall later. Your wife's right that drywall looks cleaner and might help in a higher-end flip, but $3,200 is steep if you're not sure the next owner will even care about the fancier finish. Honestly, I'd go drop ceiling here in Edmonton just for the peace of mind when that plumbing eventually needs work.

Eh @wyattbennett pretty much nailed it, did you ask your realtor friend if they've actually sold a place with drop vs drywall? We went with drop in ours and it was the right call that basement drain backed up twice in 5 years, being able to pop a tile in 5 seconds saved us a lot of headache.
