Tried spray foam in my 1950s bungalow attic. Big mistake.
Sealed everything up tight with the big foam kit from the hardware store. Two weeks later my upstairs walls started sweating and I found black mold behind the drywall. Anyone else run into moisture issues after air sealing an old house?

Man, that's rough - did you check if your attic had any existing moisture before you sealed it all up? Old houses need to breathe, and that spray foam can trap humidity like a Ziploc bag.

Oh man, that's exactly what I was thinking. I mean, it's such a bummer when you try to do the right thing and it backfires like that. Idk, maybe it's a learning thing for next time, but still, feels bad.

Gotta disagree a bit with @jones.grace on the "backfiring" angle here. Those attic seals can actually lower your energy bills by a solid 20-30% if the house is properly prepped, so it's not a total loss. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather catch a moisture issue early with a small fix than let it slowly rot the roof structure for years without knowing.
