Found a live wire in a wall I was about to cut into last week

It was in a 1950s house in Columbus, the old cloth wire was still hot and not on any of the circuits I killed. Anyone else run into this with old knob and tube that got buried?

Scares me every time. Found a hot line in my own attic once, just dangling there like a party streamer. That old cloth insulation crumbles if you look at it wrong. You really have to test every single wire like it wants to kill you, even with the main off. Some old-timer just left live wires in the walls and called it a day.

That 1950s rubber and cloth mix is the worst. My uncle had a 1940s house where all the ground wires were just snipped off and left under the floorboards, not even capped. Makes you wonder how anyone survived the old days with this stuff just baked into the walls.

Columbus has a ton of old houses but that sounds like a one in a million find.
