I just realized I've wired over 500 houses since I started my own business in 2012.

It hit me when I was updating my logbook, and it made me think about how much the code and the tools have changed since that first new-build in the suburbs.

That's a wild number of houses to think about. Must be cool to see how things like AFCI requirements or all the new smart home wiring have changed the job over the years.

Man, you hit the nail on the head. I still get tripped up by some of the new AFCI rules, like where they're needed now versus ten years ago. And pulling wire for a full smart home setup is a whole different beast compared to just a few light switches. It keeps you on your toes for sure.

Whoa wait, @jade_young88 you're saying a full smart home setup is that much worse than just switches? I mean, I've only done a couple of houses with all that automation stuff, but it felt like I was pulling wire for a month straight. It's just insane how many cables you need for everything these days. I guess I never really thought about how it's totally different from the old days of just a few switches and receptacles. That would definitely keep a guy on his toes, for sure.
