Seeing the local bakery's panel upgrade fail during a heatwave totally changed my mind on load calculations.
I used to think oversizing circuits was wasteful, but that meltdown proved proper math is VITAL for commercial jobs.

Yeah "proper math is VITAL" is so true. It reminds me of a deli that kept tripping their AC circuit because nobody factored in the huge sandwich fridge compressor kicking on. That kind of stuff just gets forgotten until it breaks.

Seriously though, it's wild how often the biggest, most obvious thing gets missed. Like you see the layout and just think "outlets and lights" and completely blank on the giant oven or the industrial mixer. That fridge compressor is a monster load just waiting to hit. Feels like a lot of plans are done on paper without someone just walking through the actual room and pointing at each thing that plugs in.

Wait they just forgot the fridge entirely? That compressor draw is huge, it's not some little thing you miss. How do you not see a commercial fridge sitting there when doing the math, it seems so obvious now.
