Vent: Smart bulbs in vintage fixtures are a bad move

They generate too much heat for old wiring and sockets. I've seen melted insulation and failed bulbs from setups that skip proper checks.

Something people miss is how smart bulbs mess with old dimmer switches. Those switches are made for plain old bulbs, not electronics. The mismatch can cause flickering and even burn out the bulb's insides fast. Plus, the heat from a bad dimmer setup makes things worse. It's a hidden risk in vintage homes.

Philips Hue actually says to avoid all old dimmers, not just for heat but because the bulbs do their own dimming inside. Those old switches send chopped up power that the smart bulb's tiny computer tries to fix, which strains it. I've seen them fail in months on a circuit that worked fine for regular bulbs.

Newer models run cooler than you'd think.
