A 2015 MacBook Pro gave me a real shock yesterday, literally.

I was swapping out a swollen battery for a client, followed all the usual steps, and had the board on my mat. Went to move the logic board and got a solid zap from a capacitor I must have missed discharging. Happened right after I unplugged the battery connector. My hand jerked back and I nearly dropped the thing. It was a quick jolt, nothing serious, but it sure got my attention. How do you guys make sure everything is fully discharged before you start poking around, especially on older Apple stuff? Any tricks besides the usual wait time?

Wait, you had the board on your mat and still got zapped? That's wild. I always thought the mat would ground it out or something. Makes me second guess my whole setup. What if you touched a cap near the CPU power section? Those things can hold a nasty little charge. I'm gonna start using a resistor to drain them first, no more just waiting around.

Just a little static shock, right?

That sounds more like leftover juice in a cap than a real shock from the main power. Those little zaps sting but aren't dangerous. Honestly, if you just unplugged the battery, where's the serious current supposed to come from? Maybe just be a bit more careful when handling the board itself.
