Just fixed a 2021 MacBook Pro that had a totally different board layout than the 2020 model

I had the same liquid spill repair come in for both years, and the 2021 board moved the power management ICs to the opposite side under a new shield. It took me an extra hour in Phoenix last Thursday because I wasn't ready for that. Has anyone else run into this with the newer Apple stuff?

An extra hour" sounds rough but... is that really a big deal for a new model year? They change stuff all the time.

That extra hour adds up fast over a whole production run.

The 2024 Ford F-150 lost about 40 minutes per truck in assembly time when they switched to the new wiring harness layout. 40 minutes per truck times 1,000 trucks a week is 67 hours of lost production. That's basically an entire shift of output just gone. Stuff gets cut or corners get rounded to hit deadlines and that hour turns into two or three pretty fast. It's not always visible on the line right away but it shows up in warranty claims and rework costs down the road.
