Rant: Moisture meter lied to me on a job in Portland last month
I was going off a pin-type meter reading that said 8% moisture, but the client's baseboards were swelling anyway. Turned out the meter was reading the top layer of dry paint, not the wood underneath. Anyone else had a pin meter give you sketchy readings?

Did you try poking it with a different setting or was it just full on lying to you? I once had a meter tell me drywall was damp because it was reading the dust.

Gotta say, I used to roll my eyes at people blaming their tools for bad readings. Thought it was just bad technique. Then I had a moisture meter that kept screaming high on a bathroom ceiling I knew was bone dry. Turned out the setting was on deep scan instead of surface mode. Felt pretty stupid. Made me a believer that half the battle is just knowing what your tool is actually doing, not just trusting the number it spits out. Ever had a tool totally fool you like that?
