Shoutout to the guy who told me his laptop 'just needed a new battery' after he spilled a whole soda on it

He brought it in a grocery bag full of sticky rice, said he saw the trick online. Has anyone else had a client try a wild 'fix' before bringing you the real problem?

Yeah, saw a post where someone tried the "put it in rice" thing for a week on a water damaged phone. By the time they brought it in, corrosion had set in and it was too far gone. Those home fixes just give people a false sense of hope while the real damage gets worse.

Honestly I used to swear by the rice trick too. But seeing stuff like that really makes you realize it's just making things worse while you wait.

Honestly @the_jesse is preaching the gospel here. Tried the rice trick myself once years ago, phone came out smelling like a bag of Uncle Ben's and wouldn't even turn on. By the time I gave up and took it to a shop, the guy opened it up and just laughed at me. Said the rice dust got inside and made everything worse than the water alone would've. Ngl I think people just want an easy fix so bad they ignore basic logic, like hey maybe sticking your wet electronics in a food product isn't science. Corrosion doesn't wait around for you to finish your grain experiment, it starts the second that water hits the board. So yeah, respect to @the_jesse for calling out how those internet hacks really just buy you a ticket to a dead phone.
