Vent: Power supply hum after replacing capacitors

Make sure the new caps have the same voltage rating.

I fixed an old stereo amp last year and just threw in 1000uf caps I had on hand, same uf but lower voltage. The transformer started buzzing like crazy under load. Turns out I was starving the circuit during peaks. Now I always match or exceed the original voltage rating, even if the old schematics seem overbuilt. That hum you hear, is it only at high volume or all the time?

Capacitor ESR can change a lot with voltage rating too.
