A weird governor rope issue on a 20-year-old Dover in Cincinnati
Honestly, I was doing a full test on a Dover MPD last Tuesday and the governor rope just stopped moving. The car was at the top floor and the rope looked fine, no fraying. I pulled the rope by hand and it felt like it was dragging on something inside the housing. Took the side cover off and found a broken guide clip had fallen into the sheave. Anyone run into a clip failure like that before?

Ever find the broken clip pieces? Wondering if it shattered or just snapped clean.

That exact clip failure happened on a 2004 Dover I worked on in St. Louis. The nylon gets brittle and snaps where it curves around the bracket. @juliam40, I found all the pieces in the sump, it was a clean break into two parts. You gotta check the other clips on that rail because they all age the same. Order the whole guide rail kit, not just the one clip, or you'll be back in there in six months.
