For years I swore by the old school way to set a governor

I was working on a 1980s Otis in an office building downtown, doing my usual routine. A new guy on the crew, fresh from trade school, asked why I was using a feeler gauge instead of the laser tool in my bag. I told him the old way was more reliable, but he pointed out my readings were off by almost two millimeters. That made me stop and think. Anyone else have a moment where new tech showed you a better way?

That laser just called your feeler gauge a liar.

Brooke, I get where you're coming from, but I have to side with Tyler on this one. A laser alignment tool doesn't have an opinion, it just spits back numbers that are way more precise than what a feeler gauge can show. If the laser says the gap is off by a few thousandths, the feeler gauge was probably just giving you a ballpark figure that felt close enough. @thompson.tyler, isn't it more about trusting the tool that measures with less guesswork involved?
