Found out the average elevator is inspected less than once a year in 12 states

Why is it even legal to go that long without checking something that can literally kill you? I live in a state that probably does that and now I'm scared to take the elevator in my own building. The safety standards for elevators should be way stricter than this. You would think after all those stories about people getting stuck or falling that they would check them more often. This is just lazy and dangerous on the state's part.

I get the concern @kevin_roberts41 but elevators are actually pretty safe even with longer gaps between inspections, the real failures are rare and usually from maintenance issues not the state schedule. It's more about the building owner keeping up with stuff daily than the state showing up every year.
