I used a dab of silicone grease on a sticky door interlock roller in a 90s Otis unit and it actually made the chatter worse for a solid week before it settled in.

Has anyone else had a lube act weird on older nylon rollers, or is there a better product for that specific job?

That "solid week" of chatter sounds like the grease needed to displace old gunk. Silicone's usually fine, but sometimes a dry lube works better on nylon.

Dry lube on nylon, huh @richard_mason? What kind of gunk are we talking about here, like old grease or just dirt?

Yeah, my old boss swore by graphite powder for nylon parts, said it doesn't hold dirt like grease can.
