Pro tip: a shop vac fixed my stuck elevator door lock in 5 minutes

I was on a service call downtown last Tuesday and this Otis door lock was binding up real bad. I spent 20 minutes trying to clean it with a rag and some spray lube but nothing worked. Out of frustration I hit it with the shop vac to pull out the gunk and a bunch of metal shavings came out. After that the lock clicked smooth as butter. Has anyone else had luck using a vac for cleaning instead of the usual solvents?

I tried that last month on a sticky lock and was shocked how much junk came out of there.

Yeah exactly. It's wild how much grime builds up in there over time.
