Showerthought: I keep seeing guys set the governor rope tension wrong on traction jobs
They crank it way too tight thinking it's safer, but that just wears the sheave grooves faster. Watched a unit in a Boston office building need a full rope replacement after only 18 months because of this. Anyone else have a good rule of thumb for the right slack?

My buddy's crew had to replace a whole set after only a year from that same mistake.

Wait, you can really ruin a whole set that fast? I used to think stuff like that was overblown until I saw it happen to a neighbor. Their deck looked awful after one winter because they skipped that step. It's crazy how one shortcut can cost so much more later.
