The day the parking garage elevator switched from relays to a VFD was the smoothest Tuesday I've had in 12 years

Had a call at a garage downtown, old Otis unit with a bad start resistor, swapped the whole controller to a MicroTech drive and the thing ran so quiet I actually checked my phone to see if I was still in the right building, anyone else get that feeling when a fix just works too good?

@the_joel you're absolutely right about that. Those MicroTech drives have saved my skin more than once with older equipment. It's good to see someone else who's been through the same headaches with those vintage Otis systems. There's something satisfying about watching an old gearbox run smooth again with a modern controller driving it. Glad you found them too, it makes a world of difference on those older jobs.

Hold on, magic? I had a MicroTech drive give me nothing but grief on an old Otis hydro last spring. Kept throwing a phase loss fault even though the incoming power checked out fine. Spent two whole days chasing ghosts before I swapped it out for a good old-fashioned relay setup. Your mileage may vary I guess but I've never seen one that worked like magic on anything older than 15 years.
