Update: The old Otis traction machine at the downtown library finally got swapped out last month.

Honestly, the noise difference is night and day, went from a constant low groan to basically silent. The building manager said the new gearless unit and updated controller were the main fix. Has anyone else had a retrofit that solved a decades-old customer complaint like that?

Yeah, my old truck's AC blower sounded like a jet engine for years. Finally replaced the motor and the silence was almost scary. Guess I just got used to the idea my commute needed a soundtrack.
