Vent: Chasing a phantom level on a 2019 Otis Gen2? took me 8 hours to figure out
I spent a whole Tuesday troubleshooting an intermittent leveling issue on a 2019 Otis Gen2 where it kept stopping about an inch low on the third floor every fourth or fifth run. Turned out the door zone bypass was just barely failing and the controller was getting a false signal from a loose wire on the limit switch. Has anyone else had a gremlin like that eat up a whole shift?

Did you ever stop to think about what all goes into tracking down a single loose wire though? I read somewhere that in modern cars, the wiring harnesses can have over 100 individual wires running through them, and they're all bundled up tight. It's not like you can just look at the thing and trace it right away - you have to pull out the diagrams, test each circuit with a multimeter, and sometimes even remove panels and seats to get to the right spot. A lot of that 8 hours goes into just figuring out which wire it is in the first place. And God forbid the wire is behind the dashboard where you can barely fit your hand in. So yeah, it stings for the bill, but the actual labor makes more sense when you think about it that way.
