A client's surprise phone call mid-extraction taught me a handy silence trick
So I was working on a deep pore cleanse when her phone buzzed loudly on the table. She answered it and started arguing with her partner about dinner plans. I froze, my gloves on, trying not to listen. Now I play soft, wordless music from a tiny speaker right by the bed. It drowns out ringtones and gives clients a hint to mute their phones. This keeps the focus on the skin and avoids those cringe talks. My days feel smoother without those awkward pauses.

Honestly what if those awkward pauses are kinda useful though? I mean, soft music is nice but sometimes a weird phone call breaks the ice. You hear something funny and you both have a quiet laugh about it later, that can make a client way more comfortable with you. Trying to wipe out all the random human stuff might make the whole thing feel less personal, like you're just a robot working on their face. A bit of cringe talk can be a real moment to connect.

I used to think you had to keep things super professional and quiet. But jade's point about the weird phone calls is actually spot on, it does make things feel more human.
