Shoutout to the client who brought in a 1970s beauty textbook she found at a yard sale

It said to use a dab of toothpaste as a spot treatment for pimples, which honestly explains a lot about my mom's skincare advice growing up. Has anyone else come across a truly wild vintage beauty tip?

Honestly, is it that crazy? Toothpaste has baking soda and stuff that probably dries out a zit. It's not like they were suggesting motor oil. Some of those old tricks were just using what you had around the house.

It's more that toothpaste is designed for teeth, not skin. The ingredients can be way harsher than people realize, especially if you have sensitive skin. A little pimple patch or even just plain aloe works better without the risk of burning.

Yeah, but that baking soda and peroxide can seriously irritate your skin. It might dry out a pimple, but it can also burn the area and leave a red, flaky mark that lasts longer than the zit itself. Been there, done that, and the scar took weeks to fade. A little dab of benzoyl peroxide from the drugstore is cheaper and actually made for your face. Why risk a chemical burn with minty fresh breath?
