Can we talk about the way I was opening milk cartons for 30 years?

I was making breakfast in my kitchen last Tuesday and my friend from Portland pointed out I was peeling the whole spout open instead of just pushing the folded corner in. I had no idea there was a designed perforation there for a clean pour. Has anyone else had a basic household item revelation like that?

Yeah I did that with cereal box liners for years... turns out you're supposed to tear along the dotted line, not rip the whole top off.

basic household item revelation" seems like a stretch for a milk carton.
