Found out I'd been loading my dishwasher wrong for 10 years
Last Tuesday my neighbor came over to borrow a socket wrench and saw me loading plates. She pointed out I was putting all the bowls and cups facing up, which just traps food water on the bottom. She told me they should face down so the spray arm hits them direct. I felt pretty dumb but my plates have been way cleaner since then. Has anyone else had a neighbor casually fix something you'd been doing wrong forever?

The neighbor's fork and spoon tip you mentioned @rivera.susan makes me wonder something. I've always done handles down on everything including knives, mostly because I'm paranoid about grabbing a sharp blade by accident when unloading. But do you ever get weird marks or rusting on the handles from them sitting in the little prongs wet all the time?

... and it honestly shows how many of these little household mistakes we just carry around without ever questioning. Like, I did the same thing with my silverware basket for years. I always put the forks and spoons with the handles down so they wouldn't clump together, but then I realized the food bits get trapped in the tines and bowls. Now I put the handles up on the forks and spoons, and the only things I leave handles down are the knives for safety. My dishwasher even has a little picture on the front that shows the right way, I just never looked at it closely until my son pointed it out.
