Just realized I used to check the mail every single day, now I go weeks without looking
For years, I would walk out to the box at my old apartment in Lincoln every afternoon, like clockwork. Now, in my new place, I only check it when I remember I'm expecting something, which was last about three weeks ago. I guess it changed when everything became bills and ads, with the occasional weird catalog for things I never bought. Does anyone else just let it pile up until it's basically a time capsule?

Check the mail when you need something, what's the big deal? It's just paper, not a life or death thing. Why make a simple chore into some deep statement about modern life?

Three years ago I moved into my current place and realized I had a stack of mail from December sitting there in April. It was mostly credit card offers and those fake checks banks send you. Honestly it felt like a little time capsule when I finally opened it, found a postcard from a friend who had moved away and I completely missed their new address. I get what you mean about the loss of that daily ritual, it used to be exciting as a kid hoping for birthday cards or letters. Now it's just junk and bills and I don't feel bad ignoring it for weeks at a time.
