My morning coffee routine got hijacked by a squirrel
For years I just made a pot in the kitchen, but now I have to go out on the porch because a squirrel in our oak tree stares at me through the window until I do. It started about two months ago and now it's just part of my day. Has anyone else had a wild animal change a simple habit?

I read a story last year about a guy in Portland whose daily jog was changed by a crow. It would wait on his fence and follow him for a block, cawing until he tossed it a peanut from his pocket. He ended up carrying nuts just for the crow, and it became his running partner for a whole summer. Your squirrel story reminds me of that. These little routines with animals feel special, like a secret part of your day that just happens.

That's so cool it makes you wonder if the animals look forward to it as much as we do. Like that crow was probably sitting on the fence thinking "peanut guy o'clock". It's a two-way street even if we don't always see their side.

Wait, you're telling me that crow actually followed him for an entire block? That's wild. Like, okay, I get the daily peanut routine (my squirrel buddy has me trained too), but a running partner for a whole summer? That crow had a whole training plan plotted out. @jones.grace, that Portland guy's story just blew my mind a little. I mean, think about how specific that crow's routine must have been - waiting at the same fence, timing his jog, probably getting disappointed on rest days. It really does make you wonder how many of these tiny animal relationships we're just missing completely.
