PSA: My car's GPS tried to send me down a washed-out road in the Blue Ridge Mountains

I was driving near Asheville last weekend following my phone's map to a hiking spot. It told me to turn onto a gravel road that looked okay at first, but after half a mile it was completely gone, washed away by a mudslide! I had to reverse for almost a mile because there was no space to turn around. Has your GPS ever tried to lead you somewhere that just didn't exist anymore?

Mine tried to send me down a private driveway that turned into someone's actual yard last month. The map showed it as a through road, but it ended at a guy's garage and he was not happy about it. I had to do this awkward three-point turn while he just stared at me from his porch. These apps really need to update their data more often, it's kind of a safety thing.

That's brutal @spencer_wood, GPS glitches are the worst. They really need to fix that stuff faster.

Man, that's the exact reason I keep a paper map in my glove box. Those GPS databases can be years out of date, especially for back roads. They show what was there, not what is there now after a storm or a landslide. It's like they forget roads can just... disappear.
