Unpopular opinion: my neighbor's 'haunted' mailbox is just a bad latch

Last month, the guy across the street in Mesa swore his mailbox door kept opening by itself at night, calling it a ghost. I watched it for three evenings from my window and saw the mail truck hit a pothole right in front of his house every single time, shaking the whole post. His latch is just loose, and the vibration pops it open. Everyone on the block is buying into this spooky story, but it's just a simple fix. Has anyone else had a normal thing in their neighborhood get a totally wild explanation?

Yeah, the pothole. I mentioned it but he already hit it last week. Now his tire's got a slow leak.
