Finally gave that hoof packing clay a real shot after doubting it for years
I had a client with a horse that kept getting abscesses in wet weather, and after three months of trying everything else, I bought a tub of that green clay stuff. Used it on a set of shoes last week, and the owner just called to say the horse is moving way better and the foot looks dry for the first time in ages. I was sure it was just another gimmick, but seeing the change over seven days has me sold. What other wet weather solutions have you all had luck with on problem feet?

Seven days is way too soon to call it a fix. I've seen that exact clay dry out a foot so bad it cracked the hoof wall within a month. A temporary dry look doesn't mean the problem is solved, it just means you pulled all the moisture out. That horse is probably headed for a whole new set of issues from being too dry now. I stick with proper cleaning and a good sealant, not packing the foot full of drying agents.

Yeah, @carter.julia is right, I saw that same thing happen with a horse that ended up with brittle, cracked hooves from that clay.
