Had a horse's shoe get stuck on a railroad tie at a show in Kentucky last month
The tie had a loose spike and the shoe caught on it mid-stride, took me 20 minutes to cut the nail out with hoof nippers. Anyone else run into random debris issues at unfamiliar barns and have a go-to way to prep for it?

Was the spike sticking up enough you could see it before the shoe caught, or was it one of those buried surprises you don't spot until it's too late? I've had a similar issue with loose stall mats at a show in Ohio - they folded up under a horse's foot and tore a frog pretty bad. I started walking every ring and aisle with a hoof pick and a headlamp before I even unload, just to kick at anything metal or loose.
