Heads up on those new 'quick-set' acrylic pads
For years, I used the old two-part mix you had to stir for a full minute... it was messy but solid. About six months back, a supplier talked me into trying a new 'no-mix' gel type that sets in 30 seconds. Used it on a client's warmblood, and the pad crumbled out after maybe three weeks of light work. Went back to my old method the next day. The fast stuff just doesn't bond to the hoof wall the same way. Has anyone else had a pad fail like that with the new gels?

My supplier in Texas said the quick-set gels need a totally dry hoof, like bone dry. Even morning dew can mess up the bond. Might be an application thing.

But that just sounds like a bad product if it can't handle real world conditions. Hooves are never bone dry in the morning when you're actually working with horses. If a gel needs perfect lab conditions to stick, it's not made for barn use. Maybe the problem isn't the dew, it's that the formula is too picky. They should make something that works where we actually use it.
